Do Men Like You More Without Makeup?

Read in Khmer

Mandy Moore made People's Most Beautiful list this year, so she certainly doesn't wear makeup because she looks like a troll (or probably even a regular person) without it. She's a huge fan of the stuff, though, telling the magazine, "I'm a product junkie. I love playing with makeup." However, she also admits that her husband, musician Ryan Adams, likes her makeup-free.

Russell Brand apparently feels the same way about his wife, Katy Perry, since he proudly posted a bare-faced photo of her on Twitter (she may not have felt as confident, since it was pulled down within hours). And when I once interviewed Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay, she told me that she rarely wears makeup off set because her dad, brothers, and husband don't like it. I've had male friends tell me they're wary of a woman who wears a lot of cosmetics because they fear what lies beneath, but most of them don't seem to mind when it's applied to look natural.

SNSD’s Taeyeon almost pulled off stage during performance

Read in Khmer

On April 17th, SNSD was met with an unfortunate accident involving a male audience member who trespassed onto their stage at the “Angel Price Music Festival” at the Lotte World ice rink.
Towards the end of their performance of “Run Devil Run“, a male audience member intruded on their stage from the back and attempted to pull Taeyeon away by grabbing her wrist.
The other SNSD members were caught off-guard, but Sunny reacted quickest and tried to stop him but could not do so. The show’s host, comedian Oh Jung Tae managed to stop the man, and security staff intervened thereafter by apprehending the man and preventing any further accidents from occurring.
Audience members reportedly looked on with shock, and were further impressed with Taeyeon’s professional attitude in returning and performing until the end.
A representative of SM Entertainment stated after the incident, “During the latter part of the event, there was an unexpected accident. Taeyeon, however, handled the matter bravely, and security staff prevented the situation from becoming more severe. At first, the audience and concert representatives all thought that a staff member was going on stage. After the concert, SNSD returned back to their dorms and are currently resting. We’re glad that the incident did not escalate into something more severe.”
With footage and pictures of the incident spreading on the internet, netizens have been posting messages of protest against representatives of the concert.

New Dutch Superbus Carries Two Dozen Passengers At 155 MPH

Read in Khmer

High speed trains are so passé — for comfortable superfast travel, hop on the Superbus.
With a top speed of 155 MPH, the new Superbus, which sort of looks like an elongated Batmobile, could be an efficient way to reduce congestion at a lower cost than building new trains or other public transit systems.
The project is led by Wubbo Ockels, the Netherlands' first astronaut and a professor of aerospace sustainable engineering and technology at TU-Delft.
Made of carbon fiber with an electric motor, the Superbus is the same width and length as a normal bus, but sits much lower to the ground. It seats 23 passengers in a luxury setting, with multimedia controls in each comfortable seat. The harness-style seatbelt makes you feel like you’re in a racecar (racebus?) and 16 gull-wing doors give it a DeLorean-like feel.
The bus debuted last fall and is starting to appear at transit trade shows. Ockels will demonstrate the bus at a show in Dubai in May, according to the BBC.

0.01% of Wikipedia turned into 5000-page book

Graphic Design student Rob Matthews decided that this valuable knowledge database shoun’tld just be available in digital form, and went about turning part of Wikipedia into a book. We say part because printing the entirety of Wikipedia would probably lock up all printing presses in the world for years.
What Matthews did was to select 437 articles from Wikipedia and get them printed and bound into a hardback book. Even with so few articles the book manages to span 5,000 pages and measures 1ft 7″ thick.

Qatar developing solar clouds to cool 2022 World Cup stadiums

Read in Khmer

When FIFA decided to award the 2022 World Cup to the State of Qatar there was a lot of surprise from the other competing countries. Not only was this a big bet from FIFA that a country so small could provide a memorable football tournament, but the temperatures experienced during the summer months when the tournament is played are extreme to say the least.
Come 2022, footballers from around the world will be heading to Doha, in a country where temperatues commonly reach 46 degrees Celsius, and don’t often fall below 29 degrees Celsius. FIFA knew this when it awarded the tournament to the country, so it also stipulated that the open stadiums must be air conditioned in some way.
How do you air condition an open stadium? Qatar University believes it has the answer, and it doesn’t involve lots of air conditioning units pumping out freezing cold air.
Qatar is a very rich country due to the massive amounts of oil and natural gas it has. Therefore they can think outside of the box for problems like this and not have to worry too much about cost. Dr. Saud Abdul Ghani, who runs the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering department at the Univeristy, has come up with a very green and nature-inspired way of solving this problem: artificial solar clouds.
If you’ve ever been outside on a very hot day then you know that standing in a shaded area can result in a temperature drop of several degrees. Dr. Ghani’s idea is to create an artificial cloud that would float above the stadiums covering a large area of the playing field in shadow. As the sun in blazing down on the cloud while it is doing this, all power can be generated through solar panels.
The cloud will be constructed of carbonic materials and have four solar engines allowing it to be moved by remote control as well as hover in place. We assume at night they will be landed near the stadiums. As for cost, the first one is thought to be in the region of $500,000, but Dr. Ghana believes that will fall and the usefulness of the clouds will extend well beyond the World Cup.
While a novel idea, we can’t help but think a strong gust of wind may cause major problems for the cloud. We’re also unsure how safe the players will feel with these clouds floating above them.
